Opera Festival June - July 2008 Philippopolis Theatre Plovdiv

In the Old Town of Plovdiv you can find the old Philippopolis Theatre where is carried out the yearly Opera Festival. It is another huge attraction in the town and there is always presented one work of Verdi. Some of the participants include well-known producers and conductors and the event is usually attended by a wide range of people all over the world.
In 2008 it will be the 22nd such festival as the first one was held in 1987. Some of the performed operas last year were Donizetti's L'Elisir d'amore, Bellini's Norma, Johann Strauss's Der Ziegeunerbaron and Verdi's Aida.
There is also a gala concert and the plays are performed by the Plovdiv Opera and Philharmonic Society.

International Folklore Festival 19 July - 02 August 2008 Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria

Every year the charming historical town of Veliko Tarnovo, which is and the former capital of Bulgaria hosts various concerts, ethnic dances, shows and conferences, providing one with the opportunity to touch the cultural traditions of the region. The International Folklore Festival also features the renowned “sound and light” performance, held on the Tsarevets hills and attracts a number of international visitors.

Bansko International Jazz Festival 8 - 13 August 2008 Bansko, Bulgaria

Held annually in the central square of the ancient town of Bansko, which is also one of the most popular Bulgarian ski resorts, this more and more popular international jazz festival has been branded with the phrase “the music of the free people”.
The fest was initially inspired by Dr. Emil Iliev’s idea to transform the small cosy town into a center of significant cultural importance. Since the event’s first performance in 1998, the number of participants and quality of performances has been greatly increasing. The event features many famous Bulgarian bands and musicians but also artists from other countries, such as Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Egypt, Macedonia, Indonesia.
